With the ‘market correction’ as some experts are calling this, still continuing for some time, I am sometimes surprised by sellers who take a stand on their price, having seen their homes languish on the market for months. I don’t expect sellers to stay on top of the market, that’s my job. What I have witnessed while out with more than one buyer recently though, is a seemingly stubborn attitude that ‘ I am not dropping below (fill in the price), I paid more than that!’ That, of course, has nothing to do with the market. We’ve slogged our way through a recession, toughed out an awful summer of weather in Calgary, and homeowners have seen resale prices fall since April. At last some good news on our economy, and specifically Calgary’s. (more…)

The fragile buying public has yet again been given another article to chew on, thanks to Mario Toneguzzi’s article in yesterday’s Herald. He quotes the ‘Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, whoever they are, who say that Calgary and five other markets are an ‘accident waiting to happen’. Hogwash. Basic economics teaches you what happens to prices due to supply and demand. Of course, if you say something often enough, people will believe it to be the truth.
